Growing up with seven brothers and sisters I had a very competitive spirit early on. I always wanted to be outside doing the same sports my older brothers were doing. When I was nine, they let me play on their roller blade hockey team and that was the first time I felt the true rush of adrenaline doing something athletic and a little dangerous.
I attended to private school, in which, unfortunately there were no organized sports. In junior high, I started making up my own workouts at home. I would time myself running around our neighborhood, and had a list of calisthenics that I would complete most nights before bed.
I got my first gym membership when I was 15 years old. I was so excited that I went to Barnes and Noble to check out every book on exercise they had. By the time I was 18 years old and ready to graduate, I had read many books on exercise and fitness and knew a vast number of exercises that I had tried on myself in the gym.
When I got to college I chose Kinesiology to be my major, because even though I had many books and had tried all the exercises, I was now even more confused than before. Why did some of the people that came into the gym always do the same things even when they were seeing no results? Why did some just stick to cardio machines? Why did some who worked the hardest still never see results?
I needed to learn about movement. I wanted to understand why some bodies respond better than others to the same exercises. It was at this time that I got my NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certification and started working at 24 Hour Fitness as a personal trainer.
After a year at 24 Hour Fitness, I started my own business: training women in their homes. What I have seen to work has been helping people transform from the inside out. Nutrition is often left out of the equation when talking about exercise or fitness. We need to understand that it’s not just about working long and hard but it’s about working smart- Less work, better results.
By fine tuning our nutritional needs, and maximizing our energy output to place enough stress on the muscles in many various ways we can achieve a body that is ready for anything. I have a burning passion to help everyone reach the most universal of personal goals- to live longer, healthier, and more satisfying lives.
