BS Dance, University of Oregon, 2002
Certified Gyrotonic® instructor
I was never interested in organized, competitive sports and instead found my fix for movement in the dance studio. I spent most of my high school years in as many dance classes as I could fit into my schedule, cleaned the studio to help pay for tuition and had the opportunity to teach, perform and choreograph. I knew immediately it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I credit growing up in the safe and simple environment of North Dakota for the freedom and inspiration to explore what the rest of the world had to offer. Soon after high school I packed up my car and set off for a new adventure in Oregon.
While in Portland, I rehearsed and performed with local dance companies while working and gaining state residency. After the realization that Portland universities did not offer a dance major I made the move to Eugene to complete my studies. One highlight of my college career was having the opportunity to study under Sherrie Barr as the first teaching assistant for her Body Fundamentals course which focused on kinesiology, Barttenieff Fundamentals and Body-Mind Centering. After graduation, I returned to Portland to train for my Gyrotonic ® certification and I tested out in front of the creator of the system, Juliu Horvath in Miami, FL. I love the Gyrotonic ® system because the quality and grace of the movement feels like dance. The exercises were conceived using key principles from swimming, ballet and yoga and are used to enhance coordination, strength and flexibility.
My passion for movement transitioned naturally from dance, Gyrotonic ® , yoga and now to CoreAlign. I’m excited to have teamed up with Carpe Diem to share my regard for the human body and its potential through movement awareness and healthy living.
